Field Service Management
Field service software when the platform stops bending
Scheduling, dispatch, job history, quoting and invoicing for companies that send people to sites. Built when the ready-made platforms cannot be made to fit the way the work actually runs.
When building beats buying
ServiceTitan, Jobber, Housecall Pro and Simpro are good products and most contractors should use one. They cover scheduling, dispatch, quoting and invoicing well, and they cost a fraction of a build.
The wall people hit is not features, it is shape. Every one of these platforms assumes a job model: a customer, a site, a visit, an invoice. When your work does not fit that shape - retainers billed against hours drawn down, equipment you own that lives on a customer site, a subcontractor network you dispatch but do not employ - you end up running the real business in spreadsheets beside the platform you are paying for.
That is the signal. Not "the software is missing a field", but "we keep the truth somewhere else".
- Your per-seat bill has passed the cost of a build At 60-100 users the annual licence on a mature platform starts to rival what a purpose-built system costs once. Work out both numbers before deciding.
- The workaround has become the process A spreadsheet, a WhatsApp group or a second system that everyone actually relies on is the specification for the thing you should have built.
- You cannot get your data out in a usable shape Reporting that needs a manual export every week is a data model that does not match your business. This gets worse as you grow, never better.
- An integration you need does not exist and never will A platform will not build a connector to your one supplier or your one piece of plant. If that link is load-bearing, it decides the question.

Questions fréquentes
Is this cheaper than ServiceTitan?
Almost never in year one, and often not in year three. A build is a capital cost with a maintenance tail; a subscription is an operating cost that scales with headcount. Building wins when the platform is forcing a process that costs you money, or when per-seat licensing has outgrown the build.
Can you integrate with what we already have?
Usually. Accounting, payroll, supplier catalogues and telematics all tend to have APIs. The honest check is whether the systems you depend on expose one - if a key supplier only sends PDFs, that shapes what is possible.
How long does a first version take?
Twelve to twenty weeks for something a crew can actually work in, if the scope is one workflow rather than everything at once. Replacing an entire platform in one go is how these projects fail.
